The status of Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells is unclear

Officials confirmed that world No. 2 Novak Djokovic is in the Indian Wells draw, while his status in the master’s 1000 tournament remains undetermined.

The name of Novak Djokovic appears on the entry list for this tournament, so he is in the draw today. He is now in communication with his team, according to an Indian Wells statement. However, it is yet unknown whether he would compete in the event after gaining CDC clearance to enter the country.

Non-immigrant non-U.S. people must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination to fly to the United States as of March 3, according to the CDC website.

After being arrested by immigration authorities on Jan. 6, Djokovic was unable to play in the Australian Open, triggering a legal struggle over the country’s COVID-19 entrance rules, which ended in the loss of his visa later that month.

Tennis’ “fifth major” will be held in October after having been canceled in 2020 and rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The women’s competition gets underway on Wednesday, while the men’s event gets underway on Thursday.

With former world number one Roger Federer ruled out due to knee surgery and Novak Djokovic already ruled out, Spaniard Rafa Nadal, who won the Australian Open in January, was widely expected to win a men’s record-extending 22nd Grand Slam title. Djokovic last competed in February in Dubai when he fell to Czech Jiri Vesely in the quarterfinals.
