Umran Malik: Journey of a net bowler, to representing his country

From being on the bench to being called up to the National Team, what a couple of years Umran Malik has had!

The 22 year old fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, Umran Malik, has had a stellar IPL season and on the back of it, has a chance of playing for India.

Umran Malik has had a splendid IPL season, bowling fiery Yorkers and bouncers throughout the tournament.

Malik finished as the 4th highest wicket-taker in the Tata IPL 2022, picking up 22 wickets in just 14 matches!

This includes a 5-fer against the eventual Champions, Gujarat Titans.

Umran Malik has become a household name, with him gathering praise from players all around the world.

Journey of Umran Malik

In 2021, Umran Malik was a net bowler for SunRisers Hyderabad. Now he is one of the very first names on the team sheet.

Before making his IPL debut, Umran Malik represented Jammu and Kashmir in the 2020-21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

He made his List A debut on 27 February 2021, for Jammu & Kashmir in the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy

Malik made his IPL debut against Kolkata Knight Riders on October 3, 2021. He was a short term replacement for T Natarajan, who tested positive for COVID-19.

But, he started to get his fame after the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

In that match, Malik bowled five balls in a row, that breached the 150kmph mark.

He was picked as a net bowler for the Indian Team, as well for the ICC T20 World Cup, 2021.

This year, many have pipped him to be a part of the Indian team, ICC T20 World Cup, taking place in Australia.

Coach Dale Steyn has been very supportive of Malik and the young star has repaid his faith, by picking up 21 wickets.

Malik bowled one of the quickest deliveries in the history of IPL, clocking 157 kmph in a match.

But, he was just beaten by Lockie Ferguson in the final, where he clocked 157.3 kmph against the Rajasthan Royals.

It will entertaining to see Umran Malik in the Blue color of India, in the upcoming series against South Africa, starting 9th June.
