“We could have bowled better” : India coach Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid : “The team could not bat well in the second innings.”

England beat Indian team by 7 wickets in Edgbaston Test. Following this result, the five-match Test series between the two teams ended in a 2-2 draw.

England beat India by 7 wickets in Birmingham Test. With this, the five-match Test series between India and England was drawn 2-2. Team India missed out on winning the Test series in England after 15 years.

If India had won the Birmingham Test match or even got it drawn, it would have created history by winning this Test series. In the year 2007, Team India won the Test series 1-0 for the last time in England.

After this defeat, Team India coach Rahul Dravid said that we had every chance to win this Test match, but we could not win it.

Both bowling and batting have been poor in the second innings. I don’t want to make excuses after defeat.

Dravid said, “After South Africa at Edgbaston also we had a lot of chances to win, but we could not do well.”

I think this kind of problem is very big which needs attention. We have been better in the last few years ,but in the last few months, we are lagging behind in terms of wins. We have to bring back the winning performance. Along with this, work will also have to be done in terms of fitness.

I was not part of the team last year

The Indian coach said,

“Our batting was not good in the second innings, level was nothing special. our batting and bowling were excellent in the first innings, but we could not maintain it in the second innings.”

I don’t want to make excuses for defeat. But I was not part of the team last year. Perhaps the England team was different at that time. Although they just came with three consecutive wins against New Zealand.

“We could have bowled better, hit better areas in the final innings. When we saw the wicket on Day one, it had an even covering of grass and we thought that there was enough in it for fast bowlers. The wicket did not break up or spin as much as we expected on the final day,” he added.

We haven’t played Test cricket for a long time. Dravid said that We had not played Test cricket for a long time. Played this match after a long time, but we do not want to make any excuse for this defeat. The England team has played well.

Rahul Dravid said,

“I would definitely say that we controlled the game for three days. But we could not bat well yesterday and could not maintain that same intensity in bowling as well. Credit to them (England), they played well. The partnership was really good (between Root and Bairstow). We got one or two chances but we could not capitalise on it .”
