Weightlifter Harshada Garud won the women’s 45kg category gold medal at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent. The 18-year-old Indian weightlifter lifted a total of 157 kg (69 kg and 88 kg) to clinch the gold medal. He lifted four kilos more than the 153kg (70kg and 83kg) he lifted while winning the title at the Junior World Championships in May.
In the men’s 49kg youth category, L Dhanush lifted 85kg to win the bronze medal in the snatch category. He, however, finished fourth on the basis of the total weight by lifting 185 kg (85 kg and 100 kg). In continental and world championships, snatch, clean and jerk and a total of india are given different medals, but in the Olympics, only one medal is given for the total weight.
