We’re pleased with the 3-0 sweep; we got what we wanted out of the series: Rohit Sharma

India skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his happiness with India’s three-match T20I series triumph against the West Indies, saying that the hosts were able to do what they set out to do. India thrashed the West Indies by 17 runs to complete a 3-0 whitewash, leaving the West Indies without a win on the visit.

In the first T20I, India successfully chased down a target, but in the subsequent two T20Is, they successfully defended totals. Suryakumar Yadav led the batting charts with 107 runs, while Venkatesh Iyer put his hand up and delivered with the bat with 92 runs in the three-match series.

In the past two T20Is, India’s bowling team was put under strain, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel stepped up and delivered.

On a drizzly evening in Kolkata, skipper Rohit Sharma expressed delight in the manner India defended totals, saying, “The team that used to chase, there aren’t many players here from that team.” We planned to bat first and then chase. Because our middle order is still pretty fresh, I’m pleased with the series.

“We received pretty much everything we wanted. We recognize that as a team, we are in our youth. We’re still a good pursuing team, but we’re missing a lot of guys. So, we wanted the boys to understand how to bat under pressure. It was heartening to see guys come to the team’s aid in difficult times. Moving ahead as a group is a positive indicator and something to be proud of. The middle-order making a difference was the most important message from the ODIs.”

“I was pleased with our seam bowling in ODIs.” And even in this place. Harshal is a newcomer. Avesh is making his debut. Shardul comes and goes. So, our objective was to give them game time and see how they reacted. When you play against a side like the West Indies, you may put your batting and bowling skills to the test. They bat pretty far. In both games, defending was a nice task “He continued.

Rohit stated that India would continue to give players chances to find the best combination for this year’s T20 World Cup.
