Yearender 2021: Olympic Moments

A historic bronze-triumphant performance by the men’s team and an impressive and fourth-place finish for the women’s team imbued fresh life into the game which was in jeopardy of falling into oblivion.

2021 has been glorious for Indian athletes and as the world gets prepared to welcome 2022, we pulled out some unforgettable Top 5 Indian moments in Tokyo Olympics.  

1) Neeraj Chopra creates history

Neeraj Chopra celebrated a fresh era in Indian athletics with his massive Tokyo Olympics gold medal that earned him a Golden Boy of India status in the country which had been eagerly waiting for such astonishing victory in track and field sports for more than a century. Chopra became only the second Indian to win a single gold medal in the Olympics after shooter Abhinav Bindra.

2) Saikhom Mirabai Chanu wins Silver

The 27-year old girl from Manipur won the silver medal for India in the Tokyo Olympics. Chanu extended the performance for India on the very first day in the 49 kg class. Chanu lifted a sum of 202 kg to appear second.

3) Indian Men’s Hockey team wins Bronze

The Indian men’s hockey team created history by prevailing the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics. After a huge gap of 41 years, the men’s team beat Germany 5-4 to triumph in the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Simranjeet Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, and Rupinder Pal Singh were the dominant creators of the victory.  

4) Indian Women’s Hockey team finishes fourth

While the men’s team came back home with a medal, the women coped remarkably well as they completed in a record fourth position in the Tokyo Olympics. The Rani Rampal-led team India got the quarterfinals of the mega match but failed to Great Britain 3-4 in the bronze medal game.

5) P V Sindhu bags another medal in Olympic

Ace shuttler of India PV Sindhu counted another gem in her luxuriously embellished crown by prevailing the bronze medal in the Olympic Games. The 26-year-old from Hyderabad, who won a silver in Rio became the only Indian woman to nail two Olympic medals for India. In the bronze medal game, Sindhu moved on to beat He Bingjiao of China 21-13, 21-15 in the Women’s singles competition.
